Dry alarm valves are suitable for cold areas without heating in protected areas or places where the building environment temperature is lower than 4°C. Wet automatic sprinkler systems are not suitable and dry automatic sprinkler systems must be used.
In the dry automatic sprinkler system, closed sprinklers are installed, and the side pipe network is typically pressurized with gas. The pressure ratio between the fire water in the lower chamber of the valve disc and the compressed air in the upper chamber is 1:5-6. In the event of a fire, the compressed gas is released from the nozzle, causing a rapid drop in pressure in the side pipe network. This change in pressure ratio prompts the lower chamber of the valve disc to exert greater thrust than the upper chamber, automatically opening the valve disc under the force of water. As a result, the fire pipe network quickly fills with fire water, enabling fire extinguishment through sprinklers.
